Howdy, i'm Shelby

Go. Capture. Record. That’s my motto.

I am a full time wedding and lifestyle photographer who loves to jump on planes and travel all over the globe- even if that means exploring my PNW backyard. When I stepped onto my first international flight to New Delhi, India, I made a pact to eat ice-cream on all seven continents in the following seven years. While I have been able to continually cross off continents and fill my belly with ice cream, this pact spurred my desire for travel in a way that I didn't know existed. Since then, I have found homes all over the planet, which has ultimately challenged me to rethink and redefine what “home” means to me and why it’s important for me to be a global citizen.

While that definition of home is always evolving, in the end, it has to do with the places that make my soul shine, while being surrounded by people who do the same. In an effort to carry on my exploration of “home”, I will be embarking on the challenge of designing and building a tiny home on wheels. My biggest pet peeve in life is when people do not take me seriously. So, in a hilarious(?) attempt to prove to the world (and myself) that I’m a perfectly capable woman, i’m beginning to pursue the craziest, most ambitious, and wildly artistic thing I have ever done.

Even though I prefer learning outside of a classroom, I am currently chasing after a degree in Sociology with both a Communication Studies + Environmental Studies (Geography) minor. People keep me jazzed and the outdoors keep me sane, which is why I am stoked to chase after a career in the non-profit world while simultaneously attempting to be an honorary ski bum for a hot sec. I also have an addiction to salted caramel cake and cuss way too much (vital info).

When I originally created this site, I desired for it to be a place in which I could share the highs and the lows, rad explorations and ways God is continuing to shape my life & faith. I believe life is fickle and funny and hard at times, even for the fortunate. While I live a life of immense blessing and privilege, it hasn’t always been so ~easy peasy~ and ~adventurous~. I have questioned my place in this world, struggled with coming to terms with my faith time and time again, been through challenging relationships that have left me in a pile of mush, watched my parents go through nasty divorce(s), and have felt all too lost and alone.

It's my goal to remain transparent through my struggles and triumphs and to share my story, because I believe we all have beautiful stories to tell.

I also Believe:

-Life is most precious when shared with others.

-We are all more alike than we like to think .

-In a God who loves me (and you!) endlessly.

-Dessert before dinner is always acceptable.

-In being a resource to others and washing everyone with love and kindness.

-It’s okay to not know what you're doing.

While “adventure” is a word that is thrown around all too freely these days, I strongly believe I am currently on the biggest adventure of my life. As far as I can see, these next years ahead of me are filled with unknowns, challenges, excitement, plane rides and long car rides, and an overwhelming feeling of joy and elation.

Through my exploration, written rambles, and photographs, it is my hope that this personal journal can honestly highlight the high peaks and low valleys of my continuous journey through life. I also hope we can connect through my writing, that I can encourage you to travel and follow those big dreams you’ve had, and that I’ll occasionally provide some rad photos for you to stare at when you’re procrastinating at 1am.
